EAL Excellence Award

These Excellence Awards aim to give preschools a self-evaluation framework they can use to evaluate their current practice against a range of statements, categorised under five broad headings. As a preschool lucky enough to have children from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds we feel this is an important area to consider and support within our setting.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

Children who have English as an additional Language (EAL) don't always understand English and they may need some additional support to access the provision, to make friendships and understand routines. Taking part in this award helps support our staff to develop the setting ensuring it is accessible for ALL children and that their development is nurtured in the same way as all our children.

This is the first term that preschools, nurseries and early years settings have had the opportunity to take part in this award. We are very proud that Tiny Steps Preschool will be 1 of just 5 settings in Hampshire to achieve this.
